Turning off computer at night: how much energy costs will you save?

Turning off computer Turning off computer at night: how much energy costs will you save?

The exact amount depends on how many watts your computer uses, look on the bottom or back of your computer to find the number or just use the following averages:
* CPU – awake / asleep = 120 / 30 watts or less
* Monitor – awake / asleep = 150 / 30 watts or less
* Laptop = 50 watts

To calculate the amount of energy:

(120 + 150 Watts × 8 hours/day × 365 days/year) ÷ 1000
= 787 kWh × 8.5 cents/kWh
= $66.93/year

I always turn all electrical equipment off when I’m not using it, I even unplug the microwave so that I don’t have to power the digital clock partly this is because I think everyone should reduce their energy consumption but I also see a major impact on my energy bills.
