Can wind turbines work in places where there isn’t much wind?
any wind turbine has designed for a specified wind velocity and optimum output power is accessible in it,however, as i know most manufacture design their generator & turbine for about 5 m/s velocity and they could work up to critical velocity (normally it is about 9 m/s). any wind turbine has control system which put out turbine in velocities more than critical from wind stream line .
please note that only wind velocity is not enough to judge about sustainability of wind farm ,when other important points such as laminar/turbulent flow can affect on performance and lifetime of your wind farm.
