Can “Green Living” prevent oil spills?
If 100% of us had always been living “green” and hence not using fossil fuels than there would be no market for oil and no spills but as it’s not 100%, and even if it was to suddenly become 100%, all that would happen is that the oil companies would loose revenue and make cuts that could make oil spills more likely.
Just as the fall of the soviet union left nuclear missiles rusting and unguarded, a sudden change may not be a good thing. Careful regulation and a planned transition is what’s needed if we want to do away with oil. Remember we have a dependence on oil, going cold turkey may be just as bad.
